Let’s forget the fact that Britney is totally my star twin, that we were born weeks apart in the same year, we both had the same artistic ambitions and goals in life from a very young age, that we both had two boys born within the same months between (both boys), that we went through similar personal issues at the exact same time, that we almost look the same in facial features, okay okay . . . Let’s review this new album!
Britney’s new, highly anticipated Circus will be out December 2nd. This album, in it’s musical and artistic presentation is refreshing, bright, whimsical, and ironic. There is much less dripping exotica and sex-beats going on and more mainline pop rock (everyone will love this!) going on.
The album covers show a whimsical circus theme, with the now grown Brit on display, like she’s the star trapeze artist. Juggling the heights and drops of life, and succeeding with strength and talent. In this album, it’s apparent. We all know that Blackout was a really incredible album, despite the bouts in her personal life. This album will not leave anyone dissapointed. But I have to reiterate how different the sound and vibe is, while still being Britney!
There is less candy-pop dance grooves than in Blackout. Alot of it reminds me of Iggy Pop’s Bowie-inspired album of the 80’s meets 70’s disco, meets Euroasian – Russian pop dance songs. Some of the songs I can see becoming timeless. Here’s the lowdown on some of the album I got to hear!
“Amnesia” – This song is a girl meets boy story and reminds me most of the Bowie-inspired Iggy Pop (“Fire Girl” anyone?) album. That echo-ey drum kit bass that we all loved in those songs is resurrected in this piece.
“Lace and Leather” – This is one of her trademark, pulse racing dance songs that is sure to be part of a signature dance segment – dark industrial beats meets 70’s disco Kiss.
“Shattered Glass” and “If You Seek Amy” – The typical pop dance motif that typically embellishes her lineup. I personally don’t prefer this type of music, but it’s still great dance music.
“Unusual You” - its like that 90’s song ballad you secretly love meets Dido?
“Kill The Lights” – another amusing papparazzi rant-around, featuring discoteque yummy sounds and spook speaking keys. I don’t know how else to describe this. haha
“Mannequin”- This is the leading song of the whole album, in my opinion. Goosebump inducing, with it’s haunting vocal chorus, if you could call it a chorus. I can see this becoming a favorite of clubs everywhere.
“Rock Me In” - Will surely be one of those radio favorites. Riff guitars and dandy warhol-esque keyboard music. It’s one of those songs I hear playing in kid’s cars during the summer. one of those driving songs. Definitely a song made for movie soundtracks.

Good review. I cannot choose my favorite, cuz most of the songs are excellent pop numbers. Even “mmm papi” is good..
