Happy Art: Being Pro-Mainstream Doesn’t Make Me A Cow

But being a lover of fine and deeply meaningful things doesn’t define me. Neither does enjoyng the ’superficial’ things in life.

I can happily say I am Pro-Mainstream. This means that I love that Hannah Montana song on the radio just as much as I enjoy Nick Cave or Philip Glass. I can talk about how awesome the THIRD sequel to “Rush Hour” was just as much as I can say that “Lilya 4 Ever” was awesome. I can fully enjoy both the obscure and intelligent as well as the common, widely enjoyed subjects of our world.

Life is heavy and difficult as it is.

Sometimes I need that pick-me-up. Sometimes I need something, superficial or not, that makes me happy. Give me something light hearted and happy anyday. I will take it. A typical magazine or a popular tv show that talks about simpler things like cute pets or fun makeup or swimming, etc and so on. One of my favorite shows is E!’s The Girls Next Door. No Drama. Just the lighthearted, fun simple adventures of girls like me. I think it’s cool no matter if they are smart or not. (And I really think they are.)

Does enjoying the mainstream things in life mean I’m not intelligent?

Does it mean I’m not interesting?

Vain? Empty?

For me, it’s not the case. Being Pro-Mainstream does not mean I’m a Cow! I’m a person. I’m a human. And what I love doesn’t define me. Alot of my anti-mainstream friends tend to have a difficulty in understanding individuality and wholeness. They have become conforming non-conformists by defining their character by their enjoyments. It’s a wall they have put up to protect themselves against some unconcious fear. Whatever that is, I’m not falling into that. I’m about life and living life to the fullest.

THAT’S WHAT MY ART IS ABOUT

It’s about letting go, being alive, getting sunshine . . .

Art that makes you HAPPY. Not just art with deep meaning. If it brings you joy when you walk in the door, brings you a smile when you’re down, I’ve made something so much more meaningful. I’ve given you something to bring you life!

We can’t be serious all the time.

We cannot bear the weight of the world on our shoulders 24/7.

It’s okay if you want to do what everyone else does. We aren’t being pulled with the stream just because everyone else does it. We do it because love to live and we love people.

  1. I’m a fairly new fan of your work. While researching prospective peacock tattoo’s online I came across a woman with a peacock drawing of yours (well I think it was your drawing, I haven’t seen any peacock prints though) tattooed on her front shoulder.

The whimsy of your art really caught my eye! I am now a huge fan!

And as far as this particular blog… why pin hole yourself to one type? I too love the miley cyrus song… but I prefer Slipknot. Igby Goes Down is my favorite movie, and so is Old School.

Good luck in all that you do and I can’t wait to see more from you, mainstream or not!

  2. You are my kind of chic, of course you are in the Midwest! Words cannot describe my likes and dislikes and I can’t be pinned down, constantly evolving but remaining true to myself. I don’t really care about what other people think and do the things I enjoy no matter how silly. And yes, I do listen to Miley Cyrus.
